Want to Cook Better Wild Game? Try Benson’s Gourmet Seasonings!

Benson’s Gourmet SeasoningsI don’t normally write about cooking, but since it is such an important part of enjoying the fruits of our hunting labor, I thought I would. Also, because my wife cooks so many great wild game meals, she is often asked how she prepares it and what seasonings she uses. So I am going to give you one of her secrets – the Sportsman’s Collection from Benson’s Gourmet Seasonings.

Benson’s Gourmet Seasonings is a family-owned business in California that started in 1989 to provide salt-free, sugar-free seasonings with no MSG, preservatives, chemicals or potassium chloride. All of their seasonings are also non-irradiated and certified Kosher, making all of their products the perfect combination to go with our wild game that has no hormones, antibiotics or steroids.

The Sportsman’s Collection is a set of 3 great spice mixes: the Ponderosa, the Heritage and the Bravado. According to their website, the Ponderosa is a “very aromatic blend (that) will enhance your favorite recipe for big game -deer, elk, bear, moose, caribou, antelope, buffalo, wild boar, javalina, etc.” while the Heritage is “a savory blend of 17 herbs and spices (that) will richly enhance the flavor of your favorite game bird and water fowl recipes.”

Amy uses the Ponderosa on many of her venison dishes including roasts, stew and hamburgers, and she uses the Heritage on all of her chicken and turkey dishes as well as pork roasts. The Sportsman’s Collection also includes the Bravado-Cal-Tex-Mex, a “medium-hot spicey chili seasoning (that) is a robust blend of 18 herbs and spices.” And everyone knows how good my wife’s venison chili is, and of course the Bravado is at the heart of that great taste. She says that is also goes great with tacos and anything else that needs a little kick to it.

Please note that this is NOT a paid advertisement/post, nor did we even get a free sample to try. Amy’s grandmother lives in CA, is a GREAT cook and uses them. She also knows how much Amy loves to cook and how much I love to eat her cooking! So she sent us the Sportsman’s Collection a while back to try.

If you are interested in really creating some wonderful wild game meals, I suggest you check out their website for more information as well as how to order. It is only $14.95 plus shipping for the Sportsman’s Collection of three 2 oz bottles. Or you can get all 9 of Benson’s special seasonings for $36.00 while individual bottles are just $4.95. They also offer 1lb bags of all of their seasonings for cooks that prepare huge meals to feed lots of people – just right for most hunting camps! In addition, the Benson’s Gourmet Seasonings website has LOTS of great recipes that not only utilize all of their seasonings, but are perfect for diabetics and those on low-card diets.

    Bon Appetite!
