Big Bucks teach Big Lessons on Cubbedge Hill
Posted by lowcountryhunting on October 10, 2007
I occasionally hear hunters talking about how they are after some giant buck, one that they rarely see but that they know is still around because of its big tracks, big scrapes, big rubs, etc, etc. Well, this post is for those hunters, and the friends that have to put up with them and their stories…
Because unless you only have one buck on your property, chances are you are seeing sign left by lots of different bucks. All of these bucks were caught on camera over the last 7 days in front of a big scrape next to the corn in Apple Orchard. The bucks use this scrape year round, so I thought that it might lead to some good shots. And sure enough, it did not disappoint!
10 different bucks ranging in age from 1.5 to at least 3.5. And the one long beamed buck will probably go 4.5. I am still trying to decide how old the skinny-bodied 8 point is… He is either over 6.5 years old and headed down hill or he has an injury that is keeping him so malnurished; even then he is still over 3.5 years old judging by his head and face. He was in tons of shots over the week eating and scraping, but his hip and rib bones are sticking out every where!
So remember this series of pictures the next time your buddy starts talking about the scrapes he found that were made his “buck”. Then nicely remind him that there are lots of deer making sign in the woods, and let him know that should be good news because he may luck up and kill one while waiting on his “deer”.

Amen brother! I hear ya!
The one malnourished buck picture is interesting. I am curious what the deal is, although I realize, I may never know.
